Emily Swayne, MA candidate

Psychotherapist Practitioner Intern

HELLO!

My name is Emily Swayne. I am a Psychotherapist Practitioner at LeVan Counseling and Consulting Services.

I believe that each person has inherent value and worth; that everyone is worthy of experiencing healing and empowerment. I want to help you work towards becoming your best version of yourself and to help you feel empowered as the author and holder of the pen in your life’s story. When you step into my office you can expect to find yourself in a safe space filled with compassion, empathy, warmth, and probably the use of humor when appropriate. A space where you can be heard and collaboratively work towards healing without worry of judgement.

I believe everyone can benefit from therapy and that one of the most important factors of therapy is a good client/therapist relationship. I’m open to working with anyone who is a good fit, regardless of what you are coming in to work on. This includes children, teens, adults, members of the LGBTQIA community, families, and all forms of relationships (including monogamous, open, and polyamorous). I have special interests in working with creatives, trauma, doing pre-marital work, processing and doing work around past childhood experiences and their impact, working with those who come across like they “have it all together”, depression, anxiety, those struggling in interpersonal relationships, working on setting healthy boundaries and expectations in life and relationships; and work around helping transitions and adjustments in life be as smooth and healthy as possible. I believe that each person is the expert in their own story. I take a stance of curiosity so I can learn about you for who you are, and so we can work together on whatever it is that will be most helpful for you.

I am currently working towards obtaining my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. I graduated from the University of Northwestern, Saint Paul with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Youth and Family Studies. I have previous experience working with teens at TreeHouse and working with children and teens at PrairieCare. I am passionate about helping others not only survive but thrive!

“Sometimes life is scary and dark. That is why we must find the light.” – BMO. Whatever you're facing, I would be honored to come alongside you and to help you find the light, so to speak. I commend you for taking this step towards healing and growth, and I look forward to doing good work together!
